Wednesday’s mass shooting in downtown Seattle ended with one person dead, seven people injured, and yet again lives and a community forever changed because of senseless gun violence.

As a country, we cannot continue to coast from tragedy to tragedy without action. The Washington Legislature is considering bills to ban the kind of high-capacity magazines often used in mass shootings. No one needs a high-capacity magazine for hunting, target practice, or even self-defense. These only serve to make deadly weapons extraordinarily deadly.

This is part of a long-term push to ensure that we prevent gun violence and save lives. Together, we’ve worked hard to elect progressive majorities in Olympia who will protect our communities, and now we need them to step up and do the right thing.
