Build more affordable homes with a tax on multi-million dollar property sales

No matter how much money we have, we should all be able to live in a home we can afford. But ultra-wealthy landowners wield their power to block the creation of affordable homes near them, and they block funding sources to build more homes by not paying what they truly owe our communities in taxes.

So we’re rebalancing Washington’s upside down tax code by making the Real Estate Excise Tax more progressive, and adding a new, 1% tax on the sale of properties worth more than $3.025 million. This more progressive real estate excise tax will be a dedicated funding source for all kinds of affordable homes.
