I am a constituent in your district urging you to vote NO on House Resolution 9495 when it is brought up for a vote this week.

This legislation would grant Trump’s administration unilateral authority to suppress and punish those he views as his political enemies. Something that he has repeatedly threatened while on the campaign trail.

This legislation is completely unnecessary because existing laws already prohibit material support to terrorist organizations.

Moreover, the supposed "safeguards" provide no meaningful protection against abuse - they would provide no practical protection against an executive branch led by Donald Trump intent on exploiting this authority to effectively shut down tax-exempt organizations it disagrees with. The broad, vague language is an open invitation for abuse.

Passing this bill would hand the incoming Trump Administration a dangerous tool it could use to stifle free speech, target political opponents, and punish disfavored groups. It would also likely create a chilling effect on legitimate advocacy and free speech.

Please vote NO when H.R. 9495 is brought to a vote again this week.
